File Renamer by Date Windows 10 build 19041 or later (x64 / ARM64) Last updated: October 1, 2026

File Renamer by Date Support

Rename files together using their created or modified dates and sequence numbers on Windows.

Getting started

  • Choose Add files or Add folder, or drag files and folders into the app.
  • Set the date source, format, prefix and numbering, then review names and statuses in the preview.
  • All files in the list are included. Use Remove from list to exclude a file; this does not delete it.
  • Choose Rename files and confirm. Undo last rename restores the most recent successful operation, even after restarting. The next successful operation replaces the previous undo record.
  • Use Language for Japanese or English. Preferences are retained for the next launch.

Dates and supported files

For x64/ARM64 desktops running Windows 10 build 19041 or later. Intended primarily for regular local NTFS files, with up to 10,000 files per import.

Created or modified dates use the PC's current time zone. EXIF date taken is not read. Choose three date formats, a prefix, a starting number and minimum digits. Numbers are assigned per folder, with an optional reset for each date.

Files are renamed within their existing folder. Extensions, contents, created dates and modified dates are kept. Folder names are not changed. In-use or inaccessible files, links, cloud-managed reparse files and files without supported identifiers may be rejected.

Conflicts and interruptions

Invalid names, existing-name conflicts or files changed after preview stop the operation. Refresh files and resolve errors before continuing.

Reconnect affected external drives and choose Restore interrupted rename when an interruption is detected. Keep its record and .frbd- temporary files. External changes or disk failures can prevent recovery. Back up important files before renaming.
