Web QR Reader Support
Open a webpage containing QR codes in Safari, then run the Web QR Reader extension.
Set up the extension
- Open Safari extension settings in the Settings app and enable Web QR Reader.
- Allow access to the websites where you want to detect QR codes.
How to use it
- Open a webpage containing QR code images in Safari.
- Choose Web QR Reader from Safari's Extensions menu.
- Review the detected QR code, then choose an available action such as opening a URL, copying text, joining Wi-Fi, or adding a contact.
- Review or delete history and temporary results in the host app.
Limitations and troubleshooting
Protected pages such as Safari's start and settings pages are not supported. Cross-origin images, images requiring cookies, and images restricted by canvas rules may be unavailable. If detection fails, confirm website access, reload the page, and try again.
Automatic connection is not available for enterprise or school EAP Wi-Fi. URL warnings are based on local checks such as HTTPS, embedded credentials, and Punycode; the app does not use an external phishing database.
FAQ
Are QR codes or webpages sent to an analysis server?
No. Detection and interpretation occur on your device.
Can I use the app without keeping history?
Yes. You can turn history off. Temporary results remain for about 30 minutes and can be erased immediately with Delete All Data in the app.
