LayoutSwitch Support

LayoutSwitch switches input languages and keyboard layouts loaded by Windows using hotkeys you assign. Windows 11 is supported.

Getting started

  • Add the input languages and keyboard layouts you use in Windows language settings. Switching requires at least two distinct layouts. LayoutSwitch does not add or remove layouts itself.
  • Press Reload after adding a layout. Enable the layouts you use and assign hotkeys such as Ctrl + Shift + 1.
  • Return to a text field in the target app and press the assigned keys. Choose another shortcut if the app reports a conflict or duplicate assignment.
  • Next layout cycles enabled layouts in your chosen order. Previous layout returns to a layout observed in the same window while LayoutSwitch was running.
  • Pause stops hotkey switching. To stop the app completely, choose Exit from its notification-area menu.

Supported switching and limitations

The app selects input languages and keyboard layouts loaded by Windows. It does not change Japanese IME kana/alphanumeric or conversion modes, physical key mappings, or Windows display language. Multiple IME products sharing the same input layout cannot be selected separately.

Elevated apps and apps with custom input handling may not switch. Sending a request alone is not treated as success; unconfirmed results are reported. If the target changes, the request is not redirected to another window.

The interface supports Japanese and English and follows Windows display language during normal startup. Switching layouts does not change Windows default input settings.

Settings and troubleshooting

If only one layout is listed, check Windows language settings. Press Reload if layouts could not be read. If switching fails, reselect the target text field and check shortcut conflicts and target permissions.

Settings can be exported and imported as JSON. On another PC, only layouts installed on that PC can be used. If saving is unavailable, check disk space and access permissions. Settings from a newer version or files that cannot be safely read are protected from being overwritten.

For support, include your Windows and app versions, input languages/layouts, target app, reproduction steps, and the message shown on screen. You do not need to send typed text, personal information, or secrets.

Problem diagnostics and Sentry

To fix problems, the app sends error types, causes and stacks, OS and app versions, a random installation identifier, and startup, exit and crash session counts to Sentry. Diagnostic data is processed to exclude personal file or folder names and paths, typed text, clipboard content, audio and device identifiers. The app does not send advertisements, screenshots, interaction recordings or memory dumps. Network IP addresses are processed by the service during transmission. Diagnostics are used to investigate problems; the main feature remains available offline.
