BatteryTray Support

Find out how to check Bluetooth device batteries from the system tray and how to resolve common issues.

Using BatteryTray

  • 1. Pair a Bluetooth device with Windows.
  • 2. Open BatteryTray to see paired-device status and any battery levels Windows makes available.
  • 3. The system-tray number is the lowest available level among connected devices. If the icon is hidden, open the taskbar's hidden-icons area.
  • 4. Closing the window keeps BatteryTray running in the system tray. To exit, choose Exit BatteryTray in Settings and information.

Supported Windows versions and device limits

BatteryTray is for x64 PCs running Windows 10 build 19041 or later, or Windows 11. Windows or the device driver must expose battery information, or the device must provide the standard Bluetooth Low Energy Battery Service.

BatteryTray cannot read every Bluetooth device. It does not support proprietary USB receivers or manufacturer-specific protocols. It does not infer separate left, right, or case battery levels for earbuds. Availability and update frequency vary by device and driver.

A level is unavailable or does not update

  • Check Bluetooth settings in Windows to make sure the device is paired, powered on, and connected.
  • Select Refresh in BatteryTray. If the last-check time is old, reconnect the device and refresh again.
  • If Windows or the device does not expose a battery level, BatteryTray shows it as unavailable. This does not mean the level is 0%.
  • Windows may ask for confirmation the first time a Bluetooth LE device is read. Review and allow the request only when it appears on screen.

Low-battery notifications and startup

Low-battery notifications and starting when Windows starts are off by default. Turn them on from Settings and information. Windows Focus or notification settings may suppress notifications.
