Yakudoshi Calculator Support
Yakudoshi Calculator is an iPhone app for checking traditional pre-yakudoshi, main yakudoshi, and post-yakudoshi years from a saved date of birth.
Getting started
- On the Check tab, select Add Date of Birth and save a profile name, date of birth, and yakudoshi category.
- Review the current result, the next yakudoshi year, and the full pre-, main-, and post-yakudoshi timeline.
- You can save multiple people, switch profiles at the top of the Check screen, and edit, reorder, or delete them in the profile list.
- Use the Quick Reference tab to change the year and category and see the corresponding birth years.
How the calculation works
The app uses traditional counted age, in which a person is one at birth and gains one year of age at each New Year. The standard main yakudoshi ages used by the app are 25, 42, and 61 for men, and 19, 33, 37, and 61 for women. The preceding year is shown as pre-yakudoshi and the following year as post-yakudoshi.
Yakudoshi ages, periods, and practices may differ by region and shrine or temple. If you are planning a visit or ceremony, check the guidance of the specific institution.
The app provides a general reference based on a traditional custom. It does not predict or guarantee future events, health, or safety.
Managing profile information
Profile information stays on the device. To remove one profile, swipe it to the left in the profile list and choose Delete. To remove all app data, delete the app.
The app cannot restore deleted profiles. Restoration from a device backup depends on iOS and the user's backup settings.
Troubleshooting
- Update the app from the App Store and update iOS to the latest available version.
- If a profile cannot be saved, check available device storage and try again.
- If the displayed year does not refresh, quit and reopen the app.
- When contacting us, include the device model, iOS version, app version, the action taken, and what appeared on screen. Do not send names, dates of birth, or other personal information.
FAQ
Why does the result differ from a shrine or temple's guidance?
Yakudoshi ages, periods, and the use of counted or full age can vary by region and institution. The app shows a general reference based on traditional counted age.
Is profile information sent outside the app?
The app has no feature that sends profile information to an external server. Only when the user selects Share Result does the standard iOS share sheet pass result text to a destination chosen by the user.
