Find out how to scan a folder and interpret the results shown by SizeTrail.
Get started
- 1. Click the Select folder button and choose the folder you want to inspect. You can also drop a folder onto the app.
- 2. Review the sizes of folders and files in the list. Open a folder to inspect its contents.
- 3. Choose how to view and sort the list. Select an item to show it in File Explorer or move it to the Recycle Bin.
About displayed sizes
SizeTrail displays logical file sizes. These may differ from allocated disk space or the amount of space freed by deleting an item. Compression, hard links, and cloud placeholders can affect the difference.
Results are marked incomplete when items are inaccessible, a scan is stopped, or a link is not supported.
Moving items to the Recycle Bin
Windows shows a confirmation before the selected item is moved to the Recycle Bin. Review the item before continuing. If Windows cannot move it to the Recycle Bin, follow the Windows prompt and cancel if needed.

If the issue continues, include your Windows version and the steps that led to it. Do not send file paths that contain personal or confidential information.
